The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital is committed to improving health through excellence in patient care, research, and education. Based on the knowledge about functions of the organs and nature of diseases, we provide superb medical services for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases.
To develop more effective strategies to conquer diseases, we are actively pursuing biomedical researches through the close collaboration between physicians and scientists. In addition, we manage training programs for the future physicians and scientists, not only for intramural members but also for international applicants. Twelve faculty members, 50 nuclear medicine technologists, 40 researchers, 15 nursing or administrative members are working for the patient care and researches.
We equipped with a radiopharmacy with cyclotrons, PET/CT, PET/MRI, SPECT/CT for clinics and small animal PET/CT, SPECT/CT, PET/MRI for translational research. Researchers with backgrounds in medicine, physics, chemistry, pharmacology, and biology get involved in multidisciplinary research. The clinical research improves patient care by developing, applying and conducting clinical trials for new materials and methods using PET/CT, PET/MRI, radiopharmaceuticals, imaging analysis, brain receptor imaging, and radionuclide targeted therapy. The research topics in basic nuclear medicine include the development of new radiopharmaceuticals, new technologies for the analysis of nuclear imaging, and new equipment such as a small animal PET/MRI.
From 2002 to 2006, the former Professor Myung Chul Lee had been the president of World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (WFNMB) and Prof. June-Key Chung had been the secretary general of WFNMB and Federation of Asian Societies for Molecular Imaging (FASMI). Prof. Dong Soo Lee is elected as President-Elect of the WFNMB and will act as WFNMB President from 2019 to 2020. Prof. Jae Min Jeong was elected as President-Elect of Society of Radiopharmaceutical Sciences. With our experience of rapid development, we are trying to dedicate ourselves to the worldwide expansion of nuclear medicine, especially in the developing countries. For that purpose, we are actively participating in the program of WFNMB, ARCCNM (Asian Regional Cooperative Council for Nuclear Medicine), ASNM (Asian School of Nuclear Medicine), FASMI, and etc. Our department was designated as IAEA Collaborating Center for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging for research and training since 2005. We are managing fellowship and international scholarship programs.
